the time has come for colds and overcoats
so it's basically fall, or fall weather at least. which means i have a conundrum for the next 2 or so months: suffer allergies and struggle to breathe, or take allergy meds and basically live the next few months stoned out of my mind. or sleeping. decisions, decisions. i already miss summer.

gutted
everything has been hitting me hard lately. the dreams, the case i was assigned at jury duty. then i unexpectedly broke down at blink during adam's song (which i have no trouble listening to at home). now all this stuff with dj am and they're saying it might have been suicide. it's everywhere i fucking look. it's a lie that it gets easier, it gets fucking harder (that's what she said). i still feel guilty. i'd give everything i'd ever known to go back in time 2 years to make one extra phone call.
the offer still stands... if you ever need to talk, at anytime, please call me. i don't care if it's 5am, it's not like i sleep anyway. i know we all have hard times, but if you could ever live with one day of the guilt i carry, i know you'd never consider anything that drastic.
also remember hopeline.com
sorry for the debbie downer post, but i had to get that out there
now onto another sleepless night...

same shit different day
hanging in... i was up for an amazing/long/good $$ tour and i didn't get it. been trying to cheer myself up with random adventures. for instance, last week seth green and gym class heroes came to wow skating rink. very interesting. this weekend was fitzy's birthday and that was a blast. leave it to the boys to cheer me up. last night pat realized we've been friends for 19 years now. talk about a mind fuck. now tomorrow i have jury duty and i feel like that's just going to be a barrel of fun. in short life is crappy these days, but it's the little things that make it tolerable. like bouncing souls weekend. psyched!

sorry blog
such a blog slacker i've become. maybe because it's just been a whole lot of the same going on. going to warped tomorrow, which is cool and frustrating since i thought i had that locked down months ago. this will be my 10th anniversary. ironically i won my 99 tix from y100, possibly from someone who's now an amazing friend. warped 99 really was my big eye opener and changed a lot of things for me. the first time i ever saw blink, the bouncing souls, less than jake, pennywise, h20, etc etc etc. but anyway. there's a lot of shit in the lineup this year and i'm sure i will feel old and cranky but i refuse to be one of those people who's all "oh i'm sooo old for this". then guess what, stay home. ignore all the drum tracked shit and go see bad religion.

maybe we're the lucky ones, cause we can choose to turn it off
ahh i love songs that still make your heart skip and stomach drop no matter how many times you listen to them. the loved ones' "the odds" is def in my top 5 forever. the first and last lines alone make that song perfection. why is that band not bigger?
(and for the record, their cover of coma girl is also a++... and i'm really picky about clash/joe strummer covers)

heart to heart
last weekend we held yet another epic party at 314. a very old friend showed up and we got to talking. another mutual friend just turned 25 and was having a total meltdown about not being "married with babies". what is that all about anyway?? that is the last thing on my mind. as my birthday approaches, my biggest desire is for another bunk on a tour bus. i think i was born without the girly romance and wedding and baby gene. no thanks. facebook has provided a constant reminder of high school "friends" (i use the term lightly because i basically hated everyone there but they've all decided to add me on facebook as of late, whatever) are having epic weddings and babies and whatnot. and i mean, good for them. whatever makes you happy. i just still feel light years away from all of that, if ever. but back to said party friend, apparently we were the only people at the party who had no desire for relationships and cohabitation and babies. so at least i know now that one day when i am old and gray i still have a partner in crime. good times.

"that's a dealbreaker, ladies!"
how old is too old? my friend, who is 25, was about to start seeing this guy but found out he was 40. i was on the fence with the situation, trying with that whole "age is just a number" reasoning but i can't think of what i'd do if i were in her situation. so what is the cut off point?

the search begins...
so i was flipping thru the pink clash book today again and came across something i hadn't seen before. apparently mick jones dated this chick ellen foley for a while in the early 80s. she was the girl who sang with meatloaf on 'paradise by the dashboard light' with meatloaf. anyway, mick produced her 1981 album spirit of st louis and i guess him and joe wrote most of it, and they and paul even played on a lot of it. the book even referred to it as "practically a proper clash album without joe singing.". just when i think i have everything, haha. so be on the lookout, vinyl ppl. i need this!!!

back
mini-tour went well. worked with some great people. hopefully will get to work with them again sometime. it was a nice change from van to bus. i'm spoiled now. speaking of spoiled, now that i actually have some money, i am trying hard not to spend it. gonna try to limit it to some new clothes, and i might have already pre-ordered punch-out for wii... maybe. but i couldn't help it. oh and i am in desperate need of an epic night out. i feel like it's been ages. philly you are being put on warning. this weekend... yeaaaa. ny, you are next.
but the touring bug is def back. gonna make some calls this week. fingers crossed.

bamboozle
so after partying way too hard thurs night at alk3 (bon came down and we decided to act like we were 16??), i woke up early fri to see no doubt on the today show. a few minutes later i got a call to work bamboozle. this wasn't confirmed til about 12 hrs later, so i found myself on a train to hoboken to stay with losie at 11pm. after maybe 3 hrs of sleep on the floor, we were off to the meadowlands. got to work with some cool people and make some decent money. i had decided to skip going this year because the lineup wasn't particularly great, but i was really bummed about missing the get up kids reunion, since i've heard mixed things on whether they plan on touring or just hitting up the festivals. so i took my saturday 'dinner break' (they didn't feed us and we had to shell out $ for shitty festival food) during tguk. amazing! the little neon-wearing kids went into hiding or wandered to a side stagte or something for a glorious 40 minutes and the set was amazing. i wasn't really dying to see anyone else that i hadn't just seen (new found, syg). once the side stages closed down we could really hear the headliners tho so i got to hear third eye blind (fuck yea), face to face, tbs (still terrible. i have never ever gotten the appeal of that band - sorry chrissy) and NO DOUBT. amazing.
highlights included:
- waking up at 5:30am saturday to losie blasting motley crue as i tried not to murder him
- seeing a bunch of people i love. i must have texted "merch booth by the ferris wheel" 20 times
- being called a fucking bitch only one time! sorry but you can't return a hoodie you've been wearing in the rain all day
- watching all the guys hit on girls and then wondering if they were 18 or not.
- as stated, THE GET UP KIDS. amazing.
- some kid getting all his bottom teeth knocked out during face to face. he was in such shock, he just wanders up, goes "how bad is it?" and opens his mouth as blood pours out. i hope he is ok.
- watching everyone wander up after gwar. gross.
- being right next to the dunk the clown. this was the clown that was on oz fest for 10 years. he was incredibly awful. every time a black person walked by, he would say "aren't you at the wrong show?" and play 50 cent. indians, jews, gays.. no one was safe. he kept playing the barney the dinosaur theme song and it took me til midway thru sunday to realize it was because everyone was wearing purple hoodies ala cobra starship. i was not sad to say goodbye to him.
- the girl from disney channel, demi lavato, HAS. A. VOICE. goddamn.
- number of girls that lost their flip flips and requested plastic bags as makeshift shoes: 4. if you are gonna wear flip flips to a 12 hr festival, in the RAIN, don't go anywhere near anything resembling a "pit". just a thought.
- whatever "hollywood undead"is, they need to go away and never, ever return.
- seeing exactly one hot dude (not in a band) who looked of legal drinking age. sigh.
- bringing a stereo on sunday and blasting gaslight to drown out the clown.
- being a little bit less broke now.
up soon: merch faq/dos and don'ts. it's a long time comin.

lay perfectly still... this won't hurt
MRI was not so bad... got to listen to the phils the whole time, and what a sick game. it was hard to lie completely still during those grand slams. i think my ankle will be radioactive soon...apparently there's a small fracture tho. they might wanna cast me. fuck my life. gotta live it up for now tho. decided to go to the phillies game tomorrow with phil (hold on to the'told you so's for now). pumped for alk3 on thurs, apparently it's gonna be a bigggggg reunion. also ppl are last minute trying to talk me into bamboozle. i'm not really feeling it tho.
BUT can we talk about the cops arresting all those bands at the bamboozle road show at the tla last night?? those youtube vids are crazy. is anyone really surprised at the cops tho?? i've been dealing with that shit comin out of the tla for 10+ years. and i once came THISCLOSE to being arrested for handing out flyers for y100 there once. seriously! fuck those guys.

owwwwwwwwwwwwww
anthony raneri posted this saying it was a cool tattoo. now i guess the idea is cool (love that self titled logo) but the actual execution is horrible and the one underneath probably just cancels it out anyway.

in other news i almost lost a finger today. ok it was not that bad BUT.. you know when you hurt yourself and for the first few seconds you're not sure how bad it is? i was totally scared to look. almost went to the hospital for stitches but decided against it. but since i'm allergic to neosporin and i can't remember when i last had a tetnus shot i might go get it looked at because i have insurance for a few more weeks. gotta bleed that shit dry.
and in the good daughter category, i'm taking my mom to xpn tomorrow to see kevin bacon's band. my mom looooves him, she met him when he filmed a movie in the northeast a few years ago. he used to come to bbs alot too. lucky for my mom the yrock studio connects to the dressing rooms, haaaaa.
so pissed i got screwed out of seeing save the day/alkaline tomorrow. may go to ny sat to see i am the avalanche at ak. and if i stay in philly tomorrow there's always the ataris at the khyber... ponder that for a second!!!!
AND WHAT IS THE STORY WITH THIS BLINK VIDEO???!!!??

you've got a friend in pennsylvania
interesting story
so i went to new found last weekend with chrissy. hung out in the balcony bar during bayside and met these 2 dudes. seemingly cool dudes, did the whole drinks and chit chat thing for a good while, from right after syg until at least midway through bayside. we were even talking about hanging out with them after. THEN the one dude said something more than minorly homophobic. i made some passing comment like "oh lovely, dude" to which he responds "whatever. i hate fucking fags" and keeps it goin from there. ohh ummm, chrissy it's time for a cigarette break?? sure let's go... the best part was he couldn't figure out why i was so turned off. i told him i had a gay brother and at that point he apologized for "offending" me. i don't have a gay brother -- i don't have a brother -- but should i need an excuse to be offended? i have a hard time keeping my opinions to myself sober but after a few drinks, forget it. i have zero fucking tolerance for homophobes, racists and the like. figures - cool, nice-looking dudes that wanna take us out and they like new found?? must be some flaw. at least i found it fast. chrissy and i enjoyed our drinks inside the troc bar after that.
speaking of being drunk, for some reason i thought it was a really good idea to drop 35$ on a goddamn pullover hoodie at the end of the night. ohh you take visa, here you go. i dunno what the merch split at the troc is but they have house venders so it's probably high (i know, i KNOW, but i always looked the other way and fudged the numbers. damn the man.) at least the hoodie is a spectacular shade of purple.

new found dreaming
so this is how ridic my dreams are.
me and chrissy (chrissy and i) are at new found, but like an old new found show... at the tla and we're right on the barricade. we're singing into the mike, the whole deal (side note... i really need to dig out my old pics, i know there's some jems of me and jordan circa 2000 in the back of my closet. i wish everything was digital back then. but i digress) so it's the last song and jordan asks me what i want to hear. i say ballad for the lost romantics... so they go into it... but it's not that song. it's no song i've ever heard. i look over at chrissy and she's singing away. i'm like "what the hell, this isn't it". she looks at me like i have 3 heads and screams "yes it is" then goes back to singing along. i look at the guy next to me, also singing along. at this point, i'm the only person in the place that doesn't know the words. eventually, chad stops the show to have me escorted out. yea. i think it was basically the musical dream equivalent of showing up to school without your clothes on.
(ms rock - i knew you'd really appreciate this one)

wfc
i can't believe it's been 5 months since rushing back to philly "after 3 wins", game 5 (and 5.5), going insane at frankford and cottman, and the parade down broad street. i don't care where i live, there is nothing like philly enthusiasm (tho sometimes misguided or misunderstood) and i don't think i will experience anything quite like being in philly last fall. and now i'm back here, stuck longer than i have intended... and it's really bittersweet and frustrating. but these past few months here have reminded me how much i missed it here, whether i realized it at the time or not. and hopefully things will pick up for me soon, but until then at least i'm here and not stuck in like nebraska or something. spring makes me optimistic. let's see how long it lasts. now who's gonna take me to a phillies game??

we came to dance
sometimes i become irrationally paranoid that the isight camera on my macbook is secretly recording me. like just now... steve from new found posted acceptance's "take cover" on his blog. gooooood song. i just listening to that 3 times and had myself a little sing-a-long. then i happen to look down and see the lense and think "what if"...
but hey... GASLIGHT. amazing show. lv boys came in, losie came down, the band KILLED it. saw about a million awesome people i have known over the years, drank til last call and then some and woke up sunday without so much as drymouth. it's not too often i leave the upstairs area (yea in PA the bar has to be separate, sorry losie, don't forget your id next time), or go into what could be considered "the pit" much anymore, but i think i had more fun than i have at a show in years, all very much worth it. winter show slump is officially over i think, alot of great stuff coming up. cannot wait.

left out...
so i really don't get the hype of 'where the wild things' are. well maybe it's not that i don't get it but i don't remember ever reading that book as a child. was it really that big of a deal? was i neglected?? i think i turned out ok... but everyone's been losing their minds over that trailer all day and i don't get it. maybe if they made
or
into movies, i could join in the nostalgia. but for now i'm lost.

Damn you, Bozo
So reading yahoo news i come across the story about the creator of bozo the clown passing away. I click on it, mainly because I was on the local version of the show as a child and my mom likes to break out the vhs to embarass me on occassion. the first line follows:
Whoa. Hold up. Now I guess Bozo is pretty cool, if you are under the age of 9. But this man signed the Beatles. This was possibly the single most important A&R move of all time. Really, he changed the face of American music. Apparently Capitol didn't want to bring the Beatles on in 1964, fearing their breakthrough single "I Want to Hold Your Hand" was "unsuitable for American audiences". Not only that but he signed the Beach Boys, and Frank Sinatra when he was left without a contract late in his career, leading to his comeback. The clown thing should have been a fucking afterthought. So RIP, Alan W. Livingston. I'm sure a ton of people skipped over your obit last week not realizing you were pretty much a music industry legend.
Alan W. Livingston, the music executive who created Bozo the Clown and signed the Beatles during his tenure as president of Capitol Records, has died. He was 91.

IT CAME
now this looks like the clash's self titled debut album on vinyl, and you wouldn't be wrong for calling it that. BUT,
this is actually an original 1977 UK pressing. as in, the ORIGINAL self titled debut, released 2 years before the American version, with alternate track listing. and really, the first release ever by "joe strummer".
as proven here:
this thing is like my child. consider this the birth announcement. i think i now own every original clash full length. good day.

yes please
also, fun fact: if you chew a benadryl, your tongue will go numb for about twenty solid minutes.
i just learned this by experience, confirmed by google after i thought something had gone seriously wrong (i already lost feeling in half of my tongue about 7 years ago).

today i made you a mixed tape, and i decorated it with lots of stars
so the newest facebook fad is the 25 albums thing. and much like everything music related, i'm putting a considerable amount of thought into it (call me rob fleming, or if you preferred the movie, rob gordon) i dug out my giant 400 cd holder to scan over some old stuff that i haven't listened to in a while but still wanted to include. this binder never made it to ny and i dunno if it even made it to al of my drexel apartments. so really, this is untouched stuff from about 4, 5, 6 years ago.
i found a cd labeled "jen y100 11-12-05" i was really worried that it was going to be a disc of my airchecks (i hate listening to my own voice work, it makes me really self conscious) but it was a bunch of songs that i guess i wanted to play on my show that week. i am the avalance, the mescaleros, midtown... really my own playlists haven't changed at all in three years. i dunno if that's good or bad.
another cd labeled "some fun some serious" not in my handwriting. the shit on this cd ranged from vitamin c's the graduation song to a bunch of unidentified country to the blossum theme song. must have been my college roommates.
another was a cd labeled “feb 02” with a heart sticker on it which i almost passed over. thankfully i didnt because i found some fucking JEMS. the piano song by the starting line, a b side i have been looking for for literally years. a cover of just like heaven by the benjamins. the benjamins! does anyone even remember them besides me and bon??? they did one underrated album for drive thru around 2000/2001 and faded into obscurity. an old demo of i'm a loner dottie that i don't even remember... and a TON of sappy shit. it was valentines and i was in a high school relationship, soooo i think i get a pass. but, serious dashboard alert.
so really this little facebook note project has gotten me sucked into old stuff big time. i never even got to that facebook thing. i have a ton of unlabeled burned cds to go thru. a nice little insomnia project i suppose. istay tuned.
and of COURSE, i get sucked in...

we ain't got no place to go
it occurred to me today that i couldn't remember the last show i went to. i actually took time to sit and think about it. besides the occasional sketchy fishtown house show... i'm talking, went to a venue, and possibly even (horror) paid money for a ticket. finally i remembered that it was tom gabel... at the knit... which closed two months ago.
what the fuck? i remember when seeing two shows a week was considered slow. is it the end of winter slump? dec-march always sucks for shows. is it the economy? i was on south street last weekend and the marquee at the tla said the next show wasn't for a week and it had been a few days since the last one. or am i just that lame now? or... is the 'scene' really just over? maybe not even over, but so small now that it's naturally just months between shows? the only show i even have planned is a month away, and then another almost full month until new found.
i'm in withdrawl. i miss sundays at the pontiac and what seemed like weekly trips to the troc. what is the solution for this??

peace out
so i decided against new york this weekend. i just wasn't feeling it when i woke up today. add in another impending sinus attack (i can feel it coming) and no thanks. decided to take it easy tonight... staying in on a friday?? blasphemy! but this means i got to watch the last episode of conan

now i love conan and i am pretty bummed by his departure. as any good insomniac knows, conan is always there for you. there's nothing like him....i have been to the late show at least ten times. i got to see william fucking shatner do "in the year 2000" from within the audience, 2 rows from me. i got to meet sonic youth (!!!!). i got to hug john stamos. now i get to watch him... from the opposite coast. lame.
oh AND, someone let me know when that video john mayer sent him tonight is online. that was amazing.

much of the same
i've been a bit mia this week (speaking of which, how cute is mia's baby?). applied to a few more jobs (hi!), ran a few errands, blah blah blah. i've been glued to conan every night as he breaks my heart. 2 shows left... killing me. heading to ny this weekend... bhl is playing saturday night. i'll be in brooklyn tomorrow so get at me.
now it's time to watch conan go destroy some more of his set

tequila and i are DONE PROFESSIONALLY
apparently i learned nothing from the vinnie patron shot incident last month (exhibit a:
) when i supposedly swore off tequila forever. just a few short weeks later i find myself going to the cantina in south philly. it turned into one of those epic nights that you know you'll be quoting inside jokes from for years, overtaking the jukebox (i remember loudly singing say it ain't so, thunder road, and more than a few tracks off the essential clash, among others) and stealing a fork off the table at the end of the night for no apparent reason. i consumed at least 5 margaritas (salted on the rocks... the only way to go). needless to say i was feeling less than excellent today and woke up to find these gems on my camera:

but really, finished with tequila now. maybe all liquor, for a while...or until next weekend.

mid-afternoon blogging...
...due to severe frustration.

"hi. i'm a recovering crack head. this is my retarded sister that i take care of. i'd like some welfare, please."
chrissy has been blackberry messaging me from work all day, as people from her office are being let go left and right. i received a post card today from my good friend ben who was just let go from major league baseball / elton john (he explained to me countless times how the two were connected, but i still don't really recall). i can't find work here, in ny, or on tour. it's endlessly frustrating. working in this industry is hard enough but add in the lovely economic times we are in and... well most of my friends seem to be out of work.
i am thinking of starting a career as a reality show contestant/personality. all i have to do is get on one of those dating shows, cause a giant scene, and end up with a show of my own. or maybe create a new personality and make friends with celebrities a la JT LeRoy. or i could redo this blog into celebrity gossip and become the straight female perez hilton. these are just a few ideas. suggestions welcome, before it comes to this:

disappearing blog
well i posted a blog last night but it seems to be gone now. i promise you didn't miss much, just something about being sick of girls complaining about valentine's day and seeing jimmy fallon at a gay bar. insomnia is still here...
oh and
i saw this in the store today:

and thought of this:

that's all i got. thank you and goodnight!

standup guys
one of the guys from saving abel was arrested:
Lead guitarist Jason Null, 33, and guitar stringer Brandon J. Danger, 21, were arrested on felony charges of forced oral copulation and forced oral copulation on a minor after performing at the Oracle Arena on Tuesday night.
A 17-year-old girl from the Central Valley who attended the concert with her younger brother told police she was lured to the band's tour bus after Danger asked her if she wanted to be in a rock music video.
Once inside the bus, Null pushed her face down into Danger's exposed genitals, forcing her to perform oral sex, she told investigators. She was allowed to leave after saying she wanted to stop, police said.
state of shock did a one off show with them in illinois. i think their single was about blow jobs. but imagine my surprise when their merch guy turned out to be... my ex. because you always expect to run into an ex in nowhere, illinois. that was a fun show.

we'll blast the stereo and we'll drive to madagascar
the blink182 reunion had me digging thru the archives the past few days. blink was probably the first band that i followed on a serious basis. listening to each album back to buddha brings me back to specific times and places. i've dug up some goodies, here we have "Stalking Mark Hoppus Through the Ages":
>
warped 99, my first. i won the tickets from y100 ( foreshadowing?). do i look dumbstruck due to the beginning of a life-long crush, or because i just had my face blown off after seeing h2o and the bouncing souls for the first time?? i had just turned 15, and it was all downhill from here.

fall 2003, dollar bill tour at the tla. you know that alley between imagine and the steak place where they line up kids before shows? yea i slept in that alley to get tickets for this show. i got THE LAST ticket too. so day of show we went back early to wait and mark came out and hung out with the kids for a while. tom was around but was kind of a dick, refused to sign anything or talk to anyone (more foreshadowing?) second to last blink show i ever saw.

fall 2006, +44 at the tla. total heartbreaker because i had to skip new found at the factory, but got to interview them for yrock with josh. this was when travis's wrist was all screwed up so he was out of his mind on, at least, painkillers,.... i was offered drugs from the BIGGEST BAG OF WEED I HAVE EVER SEEN by his assistant (who later died in the plane crash). After the show Mark came out and signed stuff for every kid in the place, and got some more promo stuff signed, "for the station".
i cannot wait for the new album/tour. i hope it follows the path they were laying with the self titled, and tom's craziness/ego/AvA influence is dialed down. hopefully they won't kill each other in the process. now all we need is a movielife and midtown reunion and 16 year old me will be truly satisfied

not without a fight
new found leaked over a month early!! i'm on my second listen and loving it so far. supposedly a return to form and i'd have to agree. kind of a mix between tip of the iceberg (which was already on it's way back) and the better parts of sticks and stones. production sounds pretty good too tho i don't think mark has a signature style yet. SPEAKING OF, blink reunion is all but confirmed. i'm actually excited to watch the grammys for once, between blink and mia possibly giving birth on stage, now somthing's goin on with green day? i'm predicting they'll be involved with paul mccartney.
also, another nail in the coffin of south street: guacamole is closed. i discovered this while drunkenly stumbling out of tattooed moms last night, i think there was some yelling. if it wasn't for moms and visiting lauren (i just like hanging out on top of condom kingdom), and lorenzos, there's really no reason to go there anymore. sad. i thought it was bad when they put a payless in the philadeli, but guacamole? seriously? now it's fucking t moblie and adidas.

oh and another thing
i got the original 1987 vinyl pressing of the straight to hell soundtrack on ebay today. i am SUPER PUMPED.

it was relatively cheap but more than i should be spending on anything right now... but oh well. it's supposedly in excellent condition... we will see.
still listening to 59 sound... for whatever reason it will not scrobble on last.fm; if it had you would know i've listened to it over 20 times in the past 10 or so days. still awesome. also loving the new loved ones still. trying to keep up with new music this year, as per my new years resolution. two tongues is OK. bemis is too happy for my liking, hope he doesn't get married and turn into skiba.
also trying not to get my hopes up too too much but blink are presenting at the grammys sun. the three of them in a room not killing each other is an improvement, who knows what will happen next. i could use a summer tour at the tweeter, i saw them every summer there for like 5 years, it was just expected, like warped. i wonder what the crowd would be like...

such a load
sucks for michael phelps.

at first a lot of his sponsors seemed to not give a shit. but now he's lost kellogs. and us swimming is suspending him for three months?? they give the reason that he is a role model. that is what gets me every time. dude dives into a pool and swims really fast. and that's just great for him. he never asked to be a role model. that is always the slippery slope i guess. people say once you're in the public eye you don't have a choice on how you're viewed, and that's true. but he never signed up to be a Role Model to all of america. plus it's not like he killed a box full of kittens. weed never hurt anyone. i also think it's really funny that his pr people tried to bribe news of the world to not run it by offering for him to be a columnist for three years. didn't they see snl?? dude can hardly read cue cards, i can't imagine his writing would be particularly captivating.
guess my box of michael phelps corn flakes is a collectors item now. i'll save some for next time i'm stoned, in his honor.

and just for old time's sake:

oh, and... i've def had no trouble sleeping the past few nights i got some perscrription promethazine-dm syrup AKA the stuff in purple drank. i'm gonna call lil wayne. party time.

get this now
i dunno if it's available to the general public yet but everyone needs to get the new loved ones ep, distractions.
the last song is a cover of the mescaleros' "coma girl". i'm pretty picky when it comes to clash/mescaleros covers, but this one is great. pretty mellow without being like a typical acoustic cover. amazing. i have listened to it 9 times today. if you need the download link, get at me. i hope they tour on this ep. i know dave's doin a show at the church soon-ish.

internet hate michael cera
so apparently jeffrey tambor is gonna kick michael cera's ass into doing the arrested developement movie:
'Arrested Development' movie is on!
Michael Cera will do the highly debated “Arrested Development” movie, according to his on-screen granddad, Jeffrey Tambor.
“If I have to call him up and say, ‘Get on set right now, young man,’ he’ll be there,” the comic said at a recent Upright Citizens Brigade L.A. performance of “Word Girl.” “The movie is going to happen this year, and Michael Cera is on board. Trust me.”

speaking of michael cera, what a brat. he doesn't wanna be typecast? well let's face it he's been playing the same character since AD anyway. i was almost looking forward to all the in-jokes they'd have to make if george michael was either absent or recast. "where's george michael, with HER?" or "hey george michael you look really different" etc etc.
and i tried watching juno again today. I KNOW. i hate diablo cody so much. the story was cute and whatev but i really cannot take the way they talk. i've watched all three eps of united states of tara so far, but i think if i continue i'm gonna have to watch it on mute.
this sinus infection still has me on my ass so no ny this weekend. i'll probably be spending the weekend in south philly. as for now i'm gonna chug some more of this
and head to bed. peace out. oh yea and new souls song this weekend wooooo

comatose
no problem sleeping today/tonight. i've only been awake a few hours on and off since my last blog. i'm currently right smack in the middle of one of the worst sinus infections of my life, and i've had some lovely ones. don't worry kids, not contagious (i had a minor one on tour and they were all convinced i'd infected them and half of canada). thanks to all these meds i'm pretty much out of my mind so back to bed it is.

phew
apparently joaquin phoenix's rap 'career' is a hoax...
"Two people close to Joaquin Phoenix tell EW that the actor's recent attempt to reinvent himself as a rapper is not what it appears to be. Ever since the actor announced he was ditching his career in movies to try to make it as a rap artist, speculation has flown wildly about what, exactly, the two-time Oscar nominee might be thinking. Either Phoenix is perpetrating an elaborate Andy Kaufman-style hoax (with an assist from his friend and brother-in-law Casey Affleck, who's ostensibly shooting a documentary about his career transition), or he's truly lost his marbles. The truth, it seems, is closer to the former. "He said, 'It's a put-on. I'm going to pretend to have a meltdown and change careers, and Casey is going to film it,'" says one source who recently worked with Phoenix.
Though Phoenix's interest in music is sincere (he earned Oscar and Grammy nominations for his turn as Johnny Cash in Walk the Line and has directed several music videos), with this supposed career reboot he is evidently trying to both lampoon pompous actors and punk the media that covers them. Whatever his motivation or ultimate endgame, don't expect him to break character anytime soon. "It's an art project for him," says a source. "He's going full out. He probably has told his reps that he's quit acting. Joaquin is very smart. This is very conscious. He has a huge degree of control."
thank god...
really tho, that's pretty awesome. if i was famous i'd pull shit like that all the time.
also i suddenly have an urge to turn on kyw and listen for school 369 to be closed tomorrow...

don't take a sominex at 4am
suffering from insomnia hangover.... excellent.
re: last nights blog, i have it on good authority that the hold steady is worth a second chance. maybe i'll get to that tonight. i already have stay positive (impulse digital sale purchase last summer specifically for "constructive summer").. so we'll see how that goes. stay tuned.
i'm thinking about going back to ny this weekend. ass kissing/networking/"meeting for drinks" has become a full time job. if i don't find a tour/job soon, i'm gonna have to go back to temping or a starbucks type of job. the thing is i dunno if i wanna stay in philly to do that or go back to ny. the catch 22 never ends.
if i just come up with a really creative/lucrative blog, i could make a career out of that. if anyone has any ideas, i promise to give you a cut.
second chances
anyway
did you ever hear a band, hate it, only to come back to it later and love it?? hello gaslight anthem. everyone was pissing themselves over them a while back and i just thought... eh. i think maybe because they were getting lumped into the "springsteen" sound, which made me think of the hold steady, who i also never really got into.
(sidenote on the hold steady...i remember when they opened for the souls thanksgiving 05 at the troc and i really hated them. i just didn't really get it. i listened to their last album a bit after yrock started playing the song with a joe strummer reference, but i still never really got into it..)
ANYWAY i somehow started listening to '59 sound yesterday and ended up listening to it 4 times. this album is awesome. i totally get it now. if i wasn't too lazy to put together a top 10 for 08, this would have def been in there... had i given it a second listen before jan 1 anyway. i think this band could really stick around for a while. aren't they doing a headlining tour soon? sign me up.
well well
i always say i'm gonna start a real blog. and i guess i usually have the most to say when insomnia hits. or at least that's when i feel like i have relevant things to say. deep insomnia is kinda like being drunk, with a "sounded like a good thing to say at the time" attitude.
so what is this? part journal maybe? lots of opinions because you know i've got a lot of that... if you know me. if not, how did you get here anyway?
it took me like 20 minutes just to come up with a name. i guess i almost started a blog a few times because apparently i had 2 blog titles already attached to this email. both included my name tho and i guess i didn't want my name in the title. not that it's really a secret right? if you're here, you probably know me... we've been over this. anyway, i was listening to new found (surprise) and tried like 3 song titles, all taken. i guess other aging pop punk kids like to blog.
i feel like this is terribly boring. i'll get better... promise.
